Blue Coast Brewery, a French brewery known for its high-quality beers, approached our agency with the goal of revamping the label design for their Rum Amber beer. The existing label had become dated and failed to effectively convey the unique characteristics and flavor profile of the beer.
Our objectives for this project were to create a label design that:
- Reflects the French heritage and coastal location of Blue Coast Brewery
- Conveys the unique flavor profile of the Rum Amber beer
- Stand out on the shelves amongst competitors
- be easy to print and effectively reproduced in different sizes
We proposed a new label design featuring an etched ship in the background, representing the brewery’s coastal location and French heritage. In the foreground, we incorporated imagery of barrels floating in the sea, conveying the unique flavor profile of the Rum Amber beer. We used a limited color palette of blue for the etched elements and a white background to create a clean and modern look that would stand out on the shelves. This design was chosen over the competitors because of its simplicity and the idea that it gives to the consumer that the beer was made in a coastal location, invoking feelings of vacations and relaxation.
The new label design was implemented across all packaging for Blue Coast Brewery’s Rum Amber beer. The redesign resulted in a significant increase in sales, as it effectively conveyed the unique characteristics and flavor profile of the beer and stood out amongst competitors on store shelves.
By working closely with Blue Coast Brewery to understand their brand, objectives and target market, we were able to create a label design that effectively conveyed the unique characteristics and flavor profile of their Rum Amber beer. The redesign not only refreshed the brand but also led to a significant increase in sales, showing the power of effective packaging design.
Why it matters on a human level ?
The new label design for Blue Coast Brewery’s Rum Amber beer is important on a human level because it evokes emotions and memories that connect the product to the consumer in a deeper way. By using imagery of an etched ship and barrels floating in the sea, the label design creates a sense of adventure and connection to the ocean, and it’s unique to the blue coast brewery location, these images can evoke feelings of relaxation, freedom and memories of past coastal vacations.
In addition, the new label design helps the consumer to make an emotional connection to the brand and the product, and that helps build trust and loyalty. The design which was simple and only used two colors, blue and white, created a clean and modern look that can appeal to a wide range of people, it made the product stand out on the shelves and helped the consumer to identify it easily and make a quick decision.
